Understanding Global Leadership and Applying for Open Global Positions
Accomplishing big goals takes a big team, and EO is no different. To help you understand how the Global Organization is structured, view our Global Organizational Chart.
To apply for an open Global Leadership Position, you can use our online leadership application system.
Please note that not all Global positions are open for applications. A more detailed explanation of some available opportunities appears below. For questions about a particular leadership position, you may contact Linda Surles, the EO Global staff liaison to the Global Board.
Global Committees
The EO Global Board of Directors forms member-led committees to accomplish the organization’s specific strategic goals. Global Committees represent an ideal leadership step for members with specific functional expertise. There are two types of leadership positions on a committee:
- Committee Members: Any member with functional experience in a committee’s area of focus.
- Committee Chairs: Chairs are selected by the EO Global Board of Directors. They must have served for three years on a chapter board, with at least one of those years as Chapter President, and must have served as an Area Director.
Area Directors
Area Directors (ADs) work alongside chapter boards within their geographic area, providing strategic direction and information from the global organization. Area Directors serve on the Chapter Development Committee. The program is open to leaders with experience as a Chapter President in the past two years.
Chapter Launch Director
The Chapter Launch Director (CLD) is the key, senior-level, strategic resource for chapter startups. Through access to new regions and the ability to identify local chapter champions, the CLD will be essential in the development of new chapters. The responsibilities, benefits and expectations of the CLD include identify and work with chapter champions in new cities to which EO plans to expand; help recruit and establish the founding board of new chapters; help the newly created chapter grow to a minimum of 20 new members; and train chapter champions on the EO chapter startup process.
Forum Directors
The Forum Director (FD) is the key, senior-level, strategic resource for assisting chapter Forum Chairs and fostering Forum health. The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Forum leadership (Forum Directors as well as Forum Chairs) in EO and increase the value that each member receives from Forum. Through access to local chapters, the FDs are essential in communicating vital information between members and the EO Global Board of Directors. The FD will utilize the cornerstones of Forum (sharing experiences, personal responsibility), while working with chapter Forum Chairs through a “Gestalt” approach to leadership. By sharing experiences instead of giving advice, the FD will help the Forum Chairs work through chapter challenges in much of the same way that members of a Forum group help each other work through issues presented in a Forum meeting.
Learning Directors
The Learning Director (LD) is the key, senior-level, strategic resource that assists chapter Learning Chairs within a specific region/area. Each Learning Director will be responsible for approximately 10 chapters. Through access to local chapters, the Learning Director will be essential in communicating vital information among chapters and between members and the EO Global Board of Directors.
Regional Directors
Members who want to become even more involved in EO may inquire about the Regional Director (RD) Program. A key part of the Chapter Development Committee, RDs oversee the Area Directors of the main EO regions: North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia Pacific. RDs ensure that members around the globe receive a comparable, valuable experience regardless of location.
